Vegan General Tao (Tso)’s “chicken” on jasmin rice and blanched broccoli
Last night I stopped by the Paradis Des Végétariens Chi-Ming on my way back home (it’s literally 6 mins from my apartment!) . I was under the impression it was a restaurant and I wanted to just pop in and see what they had and maybe get a little something to go since I hadn’t eaten for hours.SURPRISE! (no, you’re not dead)… It’s a STORE! It’s a couple freezers and shelving units full of vegan veggie stuff. So I got myself some awesome General Tao’s and Ginger “chicken”. The stuff comes in 2 connected frozen packets, so you can cut the middle and save one for later. It’s easy to cook, either for like 5-10 mins in the oven or fry in a pan. I chose the pan for this mission, it made my “chicken” super crunchy and tasty. I blanched some fresh brocc (it makes me sound cool if i just say brocc, it’s like I have a personal relationship with the vegetable) and made (WAY TOO MUCH) white jasmine rice.
Let me tell you. This was QUICK and AMAZING. It’s going to be my new “go-to”. I like to cook, but most times I am simply too brain dead to come up with things to make and I end up making the same old stuff. I also like food to be quickly done and in my mouth. (that is NOT what she said)
I can’t wait to try the ginger “chicken”. They had all sorts of amazing options like chicken-shaped “chickens”, “fish”… all sorts of fake foods.
I usually prefer whole foods when I cook at home but these make for a great exception to the “rule”
Ps: my over use of ” “s.
